Fire Safety

Fire Safety Week is October 5 - 11, 2014. Fire prevention day is Thursday, October 9th.

Preventing fires is an important part of fire safety. Cooking and cigarettes are main causes of home fires. 65% of house fire deaths happen in homes without working smoke alarms. Smoke alarms should be on every level of your home; Inside bedrooms, and outside of sleeping areas. Smoke detectors should be tested once a month and you should replace the batteries, once a year. Children and seniors are at the greatest risk of dying in a fire, make sure you and your family members have an escape plan and know how to call for help.

Make an escape plan and practice it with your family at least twice a year.
